As we were taking the 1980 Honda out for a test drive a friendly neighbor called us over and offered us her 2007(?) Jeida Scusa 50cc scooter. There is some work to be done to get this running again, but we off and working on our second project of 2011.
Last week a great deal of work was done around the garage. Doubling the number of power outlets, beginning to organize the tools, increasing garage space and work area as we prepare to get to work this winter. Stay tuned.
As you may have noticed there haven’t been a lot of updates on our reMOTORcycles website. That’s not to say we haven’t been doing things its just to say we have been out riding, and riding is an important part of what we do.
The Honda Express has been on the road once a week for the past three weeks, and while its running, we can’t wait for the snow to fly so we can really dig into the engine and really make it run.
Fall is a terrific time to ride, but remember this time of year car drivers often forget to look out for riders, so be careful!
Well Motober 2010 went off well. First the Order of Buffalo cleanup was a great success.
Later a handful of us took our two-wheeled vehicles for a ride around town on a beautiful fall day. It was the first time the Honda was taken further than the end of the street and it needs a lot of tuning, but it worked well.
Stay tuned as we work towards the next phase of repair on the Express.
Note Notober will be Saturday November 6th when we get together with the Order of Buffalo yet again to help clean up the streets!
So since every other group on Earth did a “tober” event this October and I saw no one do a motober, I thought, we haven’t had a ride in a while, and now that more and more people are getting on the road, its about time. Come one come all to our monthly(-sh) ride this month.
We will be motobering on Saturday Oct 30th for the Shrub Planting and “notobering”? on Saturday NOVEMBER 6th, in conjunction with the Fraternal Order of Buffalo ReTree tree planting.
Regretfully some members will have to bring their four-wheeled motors in order to transport the trees and equipment! But if its a nice day, there’s always time for a ride!
We have to agree, serious injuries and death have resulted from accidents involving the rental of mopeds or scooters. But then again that’s true of cars, planes, boats, trains, and just about anything. We here at reMOTORcycles always advise you to ride safely whatever you ride. But we do encourage you to ride. We definitely think nothing can compare to riding on the open road. And in case you’re wondering if I rented one on that vacation… yes I did, I always look forward to riding exposed to the open road! Ride safely, ride on.
So its been quite a battery filled little bit of time here at reMOTORcycles. I went to ride my Buell and it wouldn’t start… hooked it up to my battery charger for the week while I was gone… nothing, so I went to get a battery… $80! Yes, that’s right, went to a couple stores, and that’s the price. My only thinking is that little Buell has 500cc cranking off of one spark, yep that’s right, a one cylinder 500.
On the other end of the spectrum is the 50cc Honda’s battery, it was WAY less expensive (even with the shipping since they don’t stock those suckers at Pep Boys!) and its WAY smaller. Its quite a funny looking battery and I wouldn’t want to try to bring it on an airplane!
And here are our first two shipments of parts. Its crazy that I not only could find all the parts we see needing for an engine rebuild etc, but that they are all OEM parts! They’re all original brand new Honda parts. Crazy to think a bike that has been out of production for thirty years still has parts made for it.
Our shop, the “Sanders Garage” is an eclectic mess, just like our company. There is a bit of this and that, and it all comes together. Look one direction and you see lawn tools, another and there’s an old snowblower, yet another and there is a fridge and a bar.
Right in the middle of all this mess, sits the work bench and it there that the room comes together, the people come together, and the parts come together.
Out of a mismatch mess of rust, new life is to be breathed into an engine.
